Merchant Innovation of the Year

New for 2022 this category recognises HVAC merchant’s roles at the heart of the supply chain and ultimately celebrates the strides they’re making to decarbonise, becoming more productive and cost effective.

SBS remain committed to reducing our carbon impact as a key member of the HVAC supply chain and over the past few years, all departments have been exploring ways where we can actively reduce our carbon emissions. With 18 locations across the UK, we quickly recognised that our transportation is our biggest carbon contributor, so we began by focusing on our distribution and explore ways that we could effectively reduce our transport’s emissions without sacrificing our quality of service.

Some of the changes we’ve made to date has included the replacement of all petrol/diesel cars with 100% electric and plug-in hybrids, electric vehicle charging points being installed at all locations,  implementation of EDI and development of an online customer portal to help reduce paper usage.

We strive to monitor, recognise and implement examples of good industry practice wherever possible, often seeking affiliation with leading independent advisory bodies such as BESA, BMFTA, CIBSE and IGEM. All of which unite the industry, increasing awareness and encourage best practice across many areas including green initiatives.

We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken so far to reduce our carbon emissions and are prouder still that our efforts have been recognised.

A year of recognition

2022 has become a year of recognition for Smith Brothers, having also being made finalists at the Construction Computing Awards in November, where our Online Operations and IT teams are shortlisted in the Team of the Year category for the development and launch of an exclusive eCommerce platform and online customer portal, www.sbsonline.net.

Smith Brothers were also finalists at September’s HVR Awards (Net Zero Hero & Collaboration of the Year categories).
