Smith Brothers Opens Landmark 75,000 sq. ft. Distribution Centre
Smith Brothers has officially opened the doors to its brand-new Distribution Centre in Glenfield, Leicester – a strategic move designed to support the company’s continued growth and expanding service capabilities.
The new facility spans an impressive 75,000 square feet, significantly enhancing the company’s logistics infrastructure & operational capacity. It consolidates and supersedes the combined capacity of the existing Blaby and Whetstone facilities, which together measured 28,000 square feet. Blaby previously accommodated around 600 pallet locations, while Whetstone held 300 pallets and 100 cantilever storage locations for pipe products.
In comparison, the new distribution centre represents a transformative leap forward, with approximately 3,900 pallet locations and, in its first phase alone, 330 cantilever locations for pipe storage.
More Space, More Services
Beyond the increase in size, the new facility offers Smith Brothers far greater operational flexibility and efficiency. The expanded space opens up opportunities to streamline distribution, significantly increase stockholding capacity, and deliver enhanced services to customers across the UK.
This move is about much more than just space; it’s about future-proofing our operations and ensuring Smith Brothers continues to meet customer demand as the business grows. This provides the business with a platform to offer more value-added services to our customers.
Supporting a Growing Business
With annual turnover now exceeding £200 million, Smith Brothers continues to solidify its position as a key player in the commercial and industrial HVAC distribution industry. The new Distribution Centre reflects the company’s commitment to investing in our infrastructure, maintaining exceptional customer service, and staying ahead of demand in a rapidly evolving marketplace.
Next Stop: Aberdeen
The growth doesn’t stop at Glenfield. Smith Brothers has also committed to opening a new branch in Aberdeen to meet increasing demand across Scotland. Scheduled to open later this year in a prime location, the new branch will extend the company’s reach and further strengthen its service offering in the region. More details will follow as summer progresses.
