The Project
The Wave, located just off the M5 at Bristol, is the first inland surf lake in the UK which uses Wavegarden’s ‘Cove’ technology.
The Cove technology generates up to 1,000 quality waves per hour. The height of the waves ranges between 50cm (1.7ft) and 2M (6’5 ft), allowing people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to experience the joy of surfing. In addition to the surfing lake, the site includes a campsite, woodland walks, clubhouse, retail space, restaurant and gardens.
As well as bringing a unique attraction to Bristol, the Wave will hopefully have a significance on the UK’s fortunes at major surfing competitions, with pro-surfers expected to train there regularly.
The Wave Bristol is the first full-size Wavegarden Cove facility open to the public in Europe and the second in the world after Melbourne, Australia.
LDS Mechanical Services
LDS Mechanical was contracted to provide a full mechanical installation, including all AC, ventilation, BMS, air source pumps, plant rooms, sanitary ware, solar systems and underground heating mains.
LDS overcame initial challenges with the original design and worked closely with Hydrock Engineering to achieve the correct result.
Lee Dunn, Director at LDS said: “SBS were as good as always at providing reliable deliveries at set times and days, with good levels of stock.”
Lee also added that it was good to work with Andrew Scott Services. LDS worked with Andrew Scott’s office and site teams to overcome any issues professionally.
The Wave was completed in October 2019 and is now open to the general public.
